VIDEO: Welcome to the program!

Hello everyone!

Thank you for joining me in this adventure. I'm delighted to have you here with me.

As we begin, I want to remind you that this is a go-at-your-own-pace program. So there are no rules! I recommend doing one class per day, and then maybe filming something at the end of it, but you can choose to work through however you'd like.

Here's what you'll need:

  • A decent voice recording app so that you can record and listen to yourself as you go.

  • A notebook and pen if, like me, you're an analog person when it comes to writing!

  • A mirror

  • Access to a few platforms like Netflix will help, but it isn't totally necessary.

  • A sense of humor! Accent work gets a little silly, and you'll soon see (if you haven't already) I don't happen to believe that you have to be "serious" in order to be a professional.

I love accents. Every single one is unique, beautiful, intricate, and none are better than any other. So I want to preface this content by saying that accents are a skill and a tool. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way you speak naturally, and if anyone has ever told you there was, or that you'd "never make it" unless you're able to sound American, well they can ")%? right off. An American accent can add opportunities, yes, just as having skills in on-screen combat can, or piano, or dance... it's a skill and a choice to be able to change your accent. Not a requirement for success or a measure of talent.

Having said that, I hope you enjoy building this new skill, and that you treat it will the same excitement you treat a new script you get to dig your soul into. Please respect our community in any comments, and always assume good intentions. Anyone displaying hateful or insulting behavior or spamming will be promptly removed.

And, my apologies if my noisy neighbors have managed to intrude in any of the videos. Now and then you may hear a bang or a faint little voice in the background. What can I say? One day I will have the resources to improve the setup. Right now, I believe that the quality of information provided will hugely make up for any lack of technical perfection.

As you're going through the lessons, you'll see I've marked the ones with videos created by me. There may be other video content and suggestions, but the classes are all marked VIDEO. You'll also see little options to mark things complete as you do them. I recommend this, because that way if you want to come back and do something you skipped, you'll easily be able to see which items are complete and which are not.

This is a program in development, as it is fairly new. I will be adding things and making tweaks as we go along, so if you have any suggestions or notice something is missing, could be helpful etc, please let me know and I'll do my best.

If you have any questions, or would like to contact me, you can do so one of three ways:

  1. By sending a message here in the platform, clicking on the little speech bubble icon in the top right corner.

  2. By email: hollydialect@gmail.com

  3. On instagram (be sure to give me a follow!) @hollydialectcoach.

Big smiles and a high five. Off we go!

I'm cheering for you,

Holly x
